Celebrate National Sunglass Day

Are your shades an accessory or a necessity?

June 27 is National Sunglass Day and we want you to celebrate with us by declaring your sunglasses an everyday necessity. One pair, two pair, red pair, blue pair - it doesn't matter! Pick your favorites and keep them with you all the time! Take advantage of our BOGO 50% off sale to snag a few new pairs

Besides the fashionability, sunglasses are really important to protecting your eyes from harmful UV light from the sun. We've already talked about how to pick the right lens color and the right frame for your face shape this month, but the most important thing you can do when choosing a pair of sunglasses is to make sure your new pair offers UVA/UVB protection, like our sunglasses. Learn more about the types of protection, when the sun is most harmful and why you should be wearing sunglasses in the Vision Council's Protection for the Naked Eye: Sunglasses as a Health Necessity.

Happy National Sunglass Day!

Things to Do For Pittsburgh Music Lovers

Photo from Three Rivers Arts Festival Facebook

In the summer, there’s never a lack of things to do. From the pool, picnics, vacations, and festivals, there always seems to be plenty of fun, outdoor events happening, especially here in Pittsburgh. One of the most fun things to do in the summer? Going to concerts! Live music and the outdoors are two peas in a pod, and Pittsburgh isn’t lacking in music options this summer! If going to concerts and finding new music is your summer goal, here are a few fun things to check out this summer.

Dollar Bank Three Rivers Art Festival

The annual art festival doesn’t just focus on visual art- music is a big part of this event, happening June 5th to 14th, with June 6th being dedicated to bluegrass. Multiple stages offer live bands throughout the day, so there is bound to be something for everyone. In addition to music, the stages also feature poetry readings and dance performances. This is a great way to get to know local artists and discover your new favorite band. Who wouldn’t enjoy ten days of free music and art?

WYEP’s Summer Music Festival

June 27th, Schenley Plaza is bound to be packed. The (free!) WYEP music festival is a great way to get outside and enjoy some live, up-and-coming music. Local teen bands are featured during the day, and the evening headliner is Martin Sexton, with openers The Lone Bellow, Kopecky, and local band Brightside.

Jergel’s Rhythm Grille

Located in Warrendale, Jergel’s is a huge restaurant, bar, and music venue all in one. They feature some form of live entertainment every night, including regional and national touring artists, local bands, themed nights, tribute bands, and even the occasional comedian.

Jam on Walnut

If you’re looking for a music festival that also gives back, the Jam on Walnut is for you. Three Saturdays each summer, Think Shadyside blocks off Walnut Street for a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation benefit concert. Each Saturday attracts about 5,000 people, so it’s bound to be huge.

Pittsburgh JazzLive International Festival

The annual jazz festival is described as “laid-back, intimate, and inviting.” Jazz music is both relaxing and catchy, and it’s not uncommon to see people dancing along with the music at this festival.

Bayernhof Museum

This quaint little place looks more like an old mansion than a museum, and it’s the perfect stop for anyone interested in both music and history. This museum is the home to 85 antique automatic instruments- instruments that play by themselves. From pianos, violins, and banjos, this museum has plenty to see. What makes it most interesting, however, are the number of secret passages, hidden caves, and the indoor pool.
